To my girls,
Sometimes life is rough.
Sometimes you will be stuck in situations that will shake you and scare you and bring you to your knees.
Sometimes you will make choices that will question what you knew about right and wrong and good and bad. Sometimes you will make choices that will bring into question who you thought you were.
Sometimes you will look at others and wish for what they have, but more often you will look at what you have and cry because you know others have far less and will always have far less.
Sometimes life is hard. Sometimes life is unfair. Sometimes you have to face your fears and your demons and sometimes you will just have to look away.
But this is all okay. This is how it is supposed to be.
We weren’t given a perfect world; we weren’t promised the stars on a silver platter.
But what we are all given no matter where we are or what our circumstances may be is the ability to act within our situation. To choose even if sometimes the only choice is to accept rather than rail against, to pray rather than cry.
You will be given hardships and heartbreaks, tough decisions and impossible situations. Embrace them. Learn from them. Flourish within them. Remember that it is through them that your character is made.
And when you look to me for example, learn from both my successes and my failures. For I have ample of each.
Life will never be perfect. Please seek happiness despite that. Please look to the Heavens for your answers, and please remember tomorrow is always a new day.
