Today’s Top Ten Tuesday hosted by Mom to Memphis and Ruby asks you to share the soundtrack to your life, and this is really exciting for me because I love music and have quite a few special songs that I am so happy to share with you. So without further hesitation, here we go. If my life were to be set to music, these songs would be playing in the background.
1. “Mandy” by Barry Manilow
This obviously has to be first on the list because it is my theme song, the song I was named after. It wasn’t until I was older that I really appreciated the beauty in the words and the heartbreak in the song. It’s gorgeous.
2. “Joanie Loves Chachi”
I don’t know what this song is called or even if it has a name, but it’s the theme song from Joanie Loves Chachi, (Happy Days spinoff.) I had to include this one in here even though the show didn’t run for all that long. At the time, I thought it was the single most romantic couple of all time, and I would just daydream about running off to the big city to sing to audiences with the love of my life. It also made me want to become a songwriter. You’re all pretty lucky that never panned out!
4. “Dancing Queen” by Abba
I really wanted to include a spoof of Will Smith’s “Welcome to Miami,” called “Welcome to Milwaukee” to commemorate my college years, but that is absolutely nowhere to be found on the web! I couldn’t even locate the lyrics. So instead I chose “Dancing Queen.” This song reminds me of good times and the best of friends. I can’t hear it without having a smile come to my face.
5. “Stand Back Up” by Sugarland
I chose this song because it is very motivating to me whenever I get in a slump. I went through a rough time a few years ago, and I would just play this song over and over again reminding myself of my strength and resilience.
6. “The Dance” by Garth Brooks
I chose this song because it’s my favorite Garth Brooks song, and its lyrics fit in so many different areas of life. You never know how things are going to work out, but if you are living life to the fullest, you will nearly always be happy for what you had while you had it.
This is a Josh Gracin cover of the song because You Tube does not seem to have a single video of Garth Brooks singing it. This in no way compares to the original, but it’s the lyrics that count, so you will get the idea.
7. “Eagle When She Flies” By Dolly Parton
I have loved this song since the first time I heard it a few years ago. It reminds me that even at our weakest, we are okay. It’s okay to be broken because it’s not our brokenness that defines us.
8. “Cowboy Take Me Away” by The Dixie Chicks
This song was my husband and my song for the entire time we were dating. It first got popular shortly after we met and it was played on the radio nonstop. It was the last song we danced to at our wedding, and my husband got me Dixie Chicks tickets for a wedding gift so we could hear the song live.
9. “Feels Like Home” by Chantal Kreviazuk
This was our wedding song. I first heard this song when I was working in the city. I borrowed a friend’s Dawsons’ Creek soundtrack (don’t laugh), and this song was on there. TJ and I weren’t yet even engaged, but I called him and told him that I had found our wedding song. I’ve always been in love with song lyrics, and there are quite a few that are very close to my heart, but I knew this song was special from the beginning. It meant a lot to me because I always had a wonderful home growing up, and so it seemed like telling my new husband that he felt like home was the ultimate expression of love.
10. “Bless the Broken Road” By Rascal Flatts
I could never have any list of meaningful songs without this song. This is the song that I sing to my daughters. It reminds me that all those years of trying to bring them into the world was part of a greater plan.
How about you? What songs are most meaningful to you?
Good blog, thanks for share this article with us
Bless The Broken Road was our Wedding song because of all we went through to get there. Good list!
