Redecorating

Phone conversation between me and my husband today.

Me: Hi Honey.  I love you.

TJ: Oh dear.  What do you want?

Me: It’s just that we have a small problem.

TJ: What’s that?

Me: It’s the powder room.

TJ: Yea…

Me: You know it has always been one of my favorite rooms.  I love the “New Hampshire Blue” we painted it that contrasts so well with the stark white of the trim and fixtures.

TJ: Yea…

Me: Well, I just realized that the paint is five years old.  If it were a child, it would already be in kindergarten.  The room really, seriously needs to be plum.

TJ: Have fun.

Me: Well, that’s the problem.  You know that it is a tiny room with no ventilation, and even if we get low VOC paint, it’s still not safe for me to paint while pregnant.

TJ: (Loud, audible groan.)  Well, we can discuss it and make a decision sometime.

Me:  Well that’s the thing.  The decision has kind of already been made.  It’s more a matter of when.

And then suddenly, inexplicably, there was some loud static and the phone connection was lost.

I really do like the color scheme in our powder room.  It’s just getting old.  This picture below will give you an idea of the current color.  It’s really hard to get a good photo of a tiny little bathroom because I doubt any of you really need to or want to see a close up of my toilet or pedestal sink.

The thing is that I really love decorating.  I’m not particularly good at it, but I really love doing it.  And I love dark, contrasting colors — jewel tones with white trim or neutral tones with dark wood furniture.  I finally have all of my rooms a color I like them (after many, many failed attempts in my living room — don’t even ask me about the peach fiasco that happened a couple of years back.)

But sometimes a girl just needs a change.

The ironic part is that most of our painting “needs” to be done while I’m pregnant.  Our living room and dining room needed to be painted when I was pregnant with the Goose (did I tell you about that horrific peach?) and Magoo’s room needed to be done when I was pregnant with her.  Sadly, TJ hates painting while I love it.  But what are you gonna do?  If a room needs painting, it needs painting, right?

Maybe I’ll wait a couple of weeks after the powder room is done before I mention that the playroom will need to be painted when the girls move in, and the nursery will need to be painted if it’s a boy.

He’s a good sport.  He really is.

And between you and me, I think he might secretly like painting.
