Outnumbered

Three on one.  Three kids to one adult.  Hardly seems fair, huh?

I’ve been a mom to three now for a little over five weeks, and I feel blessed in ways I never anticipated.

I guess what I least realized was just how much fun it would be to watch three little girls develop into older versions of themselves right in front of my eyes.  Today at Buy Buy Baby was the perfect example.  Magoo was dancing in front of the video camera at the front of the store so she could see herself on the television.  Mae was sound asleep in her stroller.  And I was chasing Goosie as she crawled around the store on her hands and knees trying to get to the toys.

It was hectic and chaotic and I felt totally outnumbered.  And yet I felt so unbelievably blessed to be amidst all of these different personalities.

I think it’s particularly interesting to have three of the same gender because you see how three little girls all with dna from the same wells can turn out so differently.  And it makes sense.  Not only do they have their own unique personalities, but they are all being raised by totally different parents.

Magoo had the blessing and the curse of having two totally inexperienced and yet utterly devoted parents watching her every single move.  Everything she did for the first time, so did we. Goosie got parents who had a little less time but also a little more experience.  She gets to be both a little sister and a big sister. And Mae gets parents with even less time but more experience.  But with her, she also gets a lot more calm.  I’m not sure if it’s just that we don’t have enough time to freak out about everything or if we have just learned to let things go a bit, but she definitely has more laid back parents.

And it’s just so much fun to sit back and watch them.  Magoo has become immersed in writing books.  She told me she’s going to write hundreds of them.  Which is fine with me because I love reading through them (it takes quite awhile for a newbie printer and speller to write out all those words) and looking at the pictures.

And Goosie has found her voice.  And she uses it.  A LOT.  Hearing her narrate every single little thing she sees makes my day.  She’s adamant about showing me everything that catches her interest.  And I feel honored to be the one who gets to share it with her.

And little miss Mae.  I could cuddle that little one into eternity.  With her older sisters, I was always excited to get to the next new milestone.  But with her, I’m content to keep her little as long as she’s willing.  I know first hand how fast these times go, and I don’t want to miss a moment.  Plus it’s nice to have someone to cuddle on the couch and watch tv with while the other two nap.

It’s crazy and very rarely calm, but I wouldn’t change a moment of it.

And in the name of shameless bragging, I’ll end with some pictures of the girls’ blankets that I finally finished.  I actually finished Magoo’s and Goose’s a couple of months ago, but Mae’s is finally done now as well.  I’ve made all of them multiple other blankets before, but I thought they were all due for new ones.

This is Magoo’s.

And Goose’s.

And finally Mae’s.
