It is exhausting being pregnant with two little kids running around. TJ is amazing at picking up the slack around here, but still, I end most days in a near comatose state.
This weekend started out a bit slow as I had a major allergy attack. My sinuses got so clogged and irritated that I woke up in the middle of the night Friday night with the room spinning as if I had spent the whole night with a bottle of vodka. It took a lot of Zyrtec and neti pot rinses, but within about 24 hours, I was doing better.
We made up for lost time by doing seemingly everything today! We got a good portion of our house cleaned, the grocery shopping done, a trip to a local farm accomplished, and a boat load of laundry. Did I mention that I’m exhausted?
I thought I would share some pics from our day.
I spent most of the day trying to get a good picture of the Goose. She is notoriously difficult to get a shot of. She is always looking away, looking down, or running away. As you’ll be able to see, I didn’t really succeed at getting any really good close up shots. This is probably the best I got.
Apparently, she has spent the last 16 months watching her big sister because as of the last week or so, she has been the queen of bling. She is almost always wearing a bracelet. Today after I got her dressed, I saw Magoo’s headband, and I thought I would put it on the Goose as a joke because it matches her clothes. TJ told me he gave it 5 seconds on her head before she ripped it off. Man was he wrong — she absolutely refused to take it off the entire day. She either had it on her head or around her neck, and if it would fall off, she would bring it to me screaming. It’s kind of funny with her because she most definitely does not have the princess mentality, but recently, she has loved to be “fancy” as Magoo would call it. I think she looks like the Karate Kid in the headband.
I never have problems getting pictures of Magoo. As soon as she sees a camera, she tilts her head to the side, puts her hand on her hip and poses. I have absolutely no idea where she came up with this pose, but she does it all the time.
We went to a local farm too visit their butterfly tent, but sadly, the tent was closed because of the holiday. Instead, we just walked around. I love this picture of the Goose. Everytime I think she is growing, I get a reminder like this that she is still quite short — she is 16 months old, and this is an 18 month skirt that is supposed to be a “short skirt.” Usually she wears it with a cloth diaper, but she was wearing (thinner) disposables and her skirt kept falling down.
I guess you take one look at my girls (who seemingly always have their Fisher Price camera in their hands) and you know their mother spends a lot of time photographing them. I just tallied the number of picture files I have on my computer, and I found that I have a whopping 23,000 pictures on my computer, all taken from 2008 on! Luckily we are past the days of film and paying for film processing because I would be broke.
I’m kinda bummed about this photo. I think it could have turned out really cute, but Magoo was pissed at me because it was hot (rational, huh?) and the Goose was pissed that she had to sit still in one place. Oh well.
And finally, I thought I would share our dinner from tonight because I had fun blogging about food last week. I had never grilled foil packets before, so I thought we would try it. We used this recipe for grilled cheddar burgers and veggie packs.
I prepared the food
While TJ grilled it.
It actually tasted a lot like pot roast. Magoo and I loved it. TJ thought it took the manliness out of grilling. He said grills are meant for meat and fire, not veggies steaming in cute little packets. I don’t know what the Goose thought because she just played with all of the food the entire time like she was set up at a sensory table. I think next time I’m going to try chicken or fish.
So that was it — our Labor Day. But before I end, I would like to take a moment to remember all of those who have gone before us and fought for the rights we have today — rights for a minimum wage, 40 hour work weeks, and occupational safety requirements. And I would like to thank all of those who work today to make the workplace more equitable for all. And finally, I would like to give a shout out to all of you out there who work long hours for little pay just to put food on the table. You keep our country running strong, and we all owe you a debt of gratitude.
Bless you all!
Great pics! Happy Labor Day. 🙂
