So I haven’t written in a few days. I don’t know if it’s the pregnancy or what, but I just haven’t had a creative or thoughtful bone in my body. And today is really no exception. So instead of boring you with nonsense prose, I’ll just share our Halloween pictures from today.
(In this first one, Magoo is like her mama taking pictures of everything!)
I don’t think I will ever forget this Halloween. It was the first time Magoo really looked forward to it in advance. I was woken up this morning to the sounds of her singing her own made up Halloween song (“Halloween’s my favorite holiday. It’s today!!) to Goosie. And the excitement actually just escalated from there.
Goosie had a costume last year (she was the sheep to Magoo’s Little Bo Peep) but this year she actually could go trick or treating. It was so cute watching her race after Magoo (about two houses behind!) and walk up to houses and get candy. I think she ended up getting more candy than Magoo because she just kept sticking her little hand back into the candy bowls, and the people thought she was so cute that they let her.
The day ended with us back at home with Goosie running around with boat loads of energy and Magoo curled up on the couch with me sobbing in utter exhaustion. In other words, exactly how I would have predicted it.
When my kids are grown, I think Halloween will be the time of year that I miss the most. I won’t miss spending countless hours at a sewing machine making costumes (I made Goosie’s but not Magoo’s this year,) but I will miss the excitement of it all. Nothing makes me feel more like a mom than following my kids house to house while they trick or treat.
I know as the years roll by, the kids will get less and less excited and the day will be more mundane, but in the meantime, I like spending these holidays taking millions of photographs and mental videos in my head so I can store them away and come back to them when I’m wistfully remembering when.
In case you were wondering, Magoo is Merida from Brave and Goosie is Raggedy Ann. She does have a wig that took me quite awhile to sew, but she literally would not keep it on her head for even three seconds, so instead, we have the world’s first blonde Raggedy Ann. We’re all about diversity 🙂
I hope you all had a safe and fun filled Halloween!
I absolutely love homemade costumes, yours looks great! We’re big Merida fans too, your little one looks just LOVELY!
Following/commeting from the blog hop! I hope you’ll come and do the same 🙂
