It was hot today. And not a nice, dry, easy hot. It was humid. I think the heat index must have been somewhere near five hundred.
We went to Target in the morning, so I could look for a suit, and they had adorable ones for little girls. I picked one out for the Goose, and it turned out Magoo wanted the same one. They actually chose to match which made me really happy because I’m sure I don’t have many more years of that.
I wanted to do something in the water, but it seemed too hot to just go to the sprinkler park because while they get wet there and have fun, I’m sitting on the side in the heat. And so I remembered that TJ had gotten a Groupon deal at a local water park that we hadn’t been to yet, so we decided to do that.
And it turned out to be one of my favorite days in a very long time. It was one of those days where I look at my kids and relive the magic and wonder of childhood through them.
It was the Goose’s first time in a pool. Luckily, this place had a couple of zero depth pools, so we spent most of our time in those. Magoo could run around and splash, and the Goose and I could sit in the water on the side and play games and have fun.
I was quite proud of both girls. The Goose didn’t seem intimidated by the water at all. Magoo is used to the water, but she still doesn’t like her head to go under. At one point, she slipped and went under, but she got up, took a moment to get her bearings, and went straight back to play.
We were there over three hours. It’s hard to do any activity as the only adult with two little kids for over three hours, but the time flew today. I did learn, however, not to attempt a lazy river with two little ones by myself. And to the lifeguard who told me halfway through that it wasn’t a great idea — yea, I figured that out, but you have signs everywhere telling people not to exit the lazy river anywhere but at the end.
I’m so excited that we found this place. I think we’ll end up going back quite a few times this summer. Next time though, I’ll make sure the snack I bring is not a granola bar with chocolate. Magoo and I practically needed a straw to drink them they were so melted.
I hope you all are able to find some exciting places to go like this over the course of the summer. All too soon, little kids become big kids who become teenagers and then adults. The days are limited where you can just decide to head to a water park at the spur of the moment and spend hours in a 2 foot deep zero depth pool. I’m glad we took advantage of this one.
Summers are for memories, and this one will remain one of my favorites.
Bought the Groupon through E-bates using a card linked to Upromise…now if I can only figure out how to add hotel points and gas savings to the same transaction…
Looks like everyone had a lovely day – except the granola bar!
